SUMMER DANCE in July – children & adults

Ballet technique, stretch and strength, posture placement, dance vocabulary and musicality.

Creative instruction that explores and refines the classical movements with sensitivity to each students particular physical requirements. The classes will focuses on proper and safe body alignment and posture stabilizers. The classical technique is progressive that will give the student a strong technical base of ballet vocabulary plus increase your range of motion and overall flexibility. Each class will unite the technical aspects of ballet technique with lyrical qualities and beauty of ballet movement.

Programs are held at The Scotiabank Dance Centre studios at the Yaletown downtown location.

All students (ages 6 – 25 years) that are interested in auditioning for the full-time 2013/2014 season will be observed through the summer programming.  Please notify us of your interests for the (ITP) Intensive Training Program.

CHILDREN PROGRAMS

Division 1 (7 – 10 yrs)

This encouraging and challenging progressive ballet class will introduce the true training of the preliminary basics of ballet technique.  It will not only develop the eager student‘s athleticism but also their appreciation for the art of classical ballet. Emphasis of safe correct body alignment, development of physical strength and flexibility will be progressed throughout the session. The student will learn classical ballet terminology and technique through strengthening exercises, ballet barre work, safe stretching, centre floor movement and combinations with arm movements (port de bras) and  jumps (allegro work).

Tuesday & Thursdays 1:30-4:00pm (July 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 2013)

Division 2 (10 – 13 yrs)

Preparatory (6-7 yrs)  Tuesdays 5:00-6:30pm & Saturdays 11:30am-1:00pm (both days tentative times and to be confirmed)

Division 1 (ages 7-10yrs) Tuesdays 4:00-6:30pm, Wednesday 4:00-6:30pm, Sat 9:00-11:30am

Division 2  (ages 10-13yrs) Wednesdays & Thursdays 4:00-6:30pm & Saturdays 9:00am- 1:30pm (see Intensive Training Program – studio downtown)

Division 3 (14 – 25yrs)  Various times throughout the week.  Please  contact us to inquire for your personal audition.

ADULT / TEEN OPEN PROGRAMS

Ballet – Level 1 /2

Fundamentals and basic technique is always reviewed and stressed in this program with continual development of dance movement vocabulary and longer combinations at the barre and center practice. Travelling and linking steps together along with pirouettes from a travelling preparation will be taught along with progressive allegro work carry the student into simple grand allegro ballet movements. Review and drilling of allegro will be the strongly focused to move the student forward to the next level where you can combine the allegro work together and start to feel more confident. Understanding the use of major and micro muscles will be emphasized to maximize your bodies potential. Musicality will also be an important focus for this level to understand the how to use the music to help you dance classical ballet with lyrical qualities and ease of movement to advance your studies.

Ballet – Level 2/3

Ballet – Beginner Pointe / Demi-pointe

Beginner level for students that are physically ready to dance on pointe. The student usually start off on demi-pointe with the instructor before they are allowed to dance on pointe. The dancer must be able to execute all levels of demi-pointe of their regular dance technique classes before they are ready to do pointe work for the very first time. The dancer must be able to hold their turn out properly with good body alignment and placement with a strong classical movement vocabulary. Proper pointe alignment, strength and movement with two feet to two feet footwork will be the focus at this level. (Please note all students must be fully warmed up before taking this class. Previous ballet technique class scheduled is highly advisable.)

Saturdays 12:00 – 1:00pm (July 6, 13, 20)

 

Ballet – Pointe 2 / Demi-pointe

A progression from beginner pointe where the student will be focusing on two feet to one foot exercises such as pas de bourre pique, retire and pose along with turns. Students will have the opportunity to build their strength and link their steps together into center practice without the use of the barre. (Please note all students must be fully warmed up before taking this class. Previous ballet technique class scheduled is highly advisable.)
